This is an interesting photograph taken by our member, the late Graham Neve.  Graham was a signalman in the Manchester area and also a keen railway enthusiast.  On the 18th April 1977 he visited the signal box at Leekbrook Junction and recorded BR Sulzer locomotive No. 24057 passing the box from the direction of Stoke.  In the distance can be seen the route of the Churnet Valley Line heading to Leek, Rudyard Lake and the junction with the main line to Manchester at North Rode.  The line to Waterhouses and Cauldon curves away in the middle distance and trailing in from the right of the picture is the now preserved portion of the Churnet Valley Railway to Cheddleton and Froghall.

Below is a photo of the signal box diagram which Graham took on the day of his visit.

We publish a bi-monthly magazine, ‘The Mancunian’, which contains interesting and informative articles submitted mainly by members covering a variety of interests such the history of locomotives and lines, current events as well as personal reminiscences of the past. The success of this magazine is reflected by the number of ‘out of town members’ that we have and the lively correspondence it generates.
The Society is the proud owner of an extensive and varied collection of books, photographs, and archive material covering locomotives, rolling stock, architecture and signalling. In addition the library has a comprehensive collection of timetables and publications from other societies. All of these are available to members.

If you would like to join then please write (including a S.A.E.) to our Membership Secretary for more information.
